Hi, Along with Kelly's fantastic resources can I suggest www.nellieedge.com and jmeacham.com. These have absolutely amazing writer resources. Nellie has free downloadable books with her ideas in and also offers great kid writing workshops. Good luck - if you experience how much Kindy kids love writing your life will never be the same again.

Writing workshopNEW by: Pati
I took advice from Kelly Mikesell and read The Daily
5. It, along with Kid Writing, already mentioned in
another posting, have helped me know that my kiddo's will begin writing the first day of school.
The Daily 5, really helped me come to understand that the students will tell me what they need
through their writing. But I am the one that has to make writing a priority and help my kids see themselves as writers. They all have something they want to tell me, now they will write it!

Concerning Writing WorkshopNEW by: ChiChi
In my Kindergarten classroom and in our District we follow Eilleen Felgus's KID WRITING approach and the lesson provided in her Kid Writing book have been very successful for my students. If you read her book and follow this approach the children will end up writing across the curriculum.
Also, I modeled writing in many ways, especially in creating predicatable classroom books.

Teach them EVERYTHING! :)NEW by: Mrs. Mikesell
Hi,
I really am of the school of thought that if you dream big and teach high, many of your kids will get there.
I would take a look at the video on this site http://elementary-teacher-resources.blogspot.com/2009/02/sample-writers-workshop-lessons.html and see if it gives you a few examples on teaching writing.
The biggest thing to remember is that if you model writing stories, your class will want to write stories...
So, from the beginning of each year - right away - write away! :)
