Daily Five NEW
by: Anonymous

I LOVED the Daily Five book after reading it, but struggled with this same question. I feel like it is very essential to adapt it for kindergarten since that much freedom and free time can lead to disaster. We didn't fully implement it until the last semester of the year and I had five group: read with the teacher, read to self, listen to reading, word study, and write to self. It took only two weeks for the students to get a hang out of it, and the loved doing it! I also only did it three times a week since our schedule changes very often. This gave me enough time to meet with each group for reading, all students went through each rotation, and I was able to check their writing.
