This is the story of an amazing fifth grade teacher, Rafe Esquith. What he accomplishes and the energy he brings to his work are awe-inspiring. I knew I would like this book after the first chapter as he bases his classroom management on Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development.....he teaches his students Shakespeare and rock and roll....

Joe Braun was one of my professors in college. Actually, he’s the teacher that kicked my butt harder than any other teacher at that university – and I loved it. He had this “walkabout” in his class where you were exposed to things you’d never done before. The walkabout pushed me into creating my first website when I didn’t even know how to use a computer, volunteering to play basketball in a juvenile detention center even though I was a big, fat uncoordinated nerd and pushing myself harder than I knew I could. So, if he likes this book, I have to go get it. Today.
