Running Records in Kindergarten

If a student is reading the same word incorrectly throughout the book, is that word counted as incorrect every time or just once?

Or can the teacher tell the word and count it as one error and hope that the student will remember the word when it shows up again.

(Most level one books are have repetitive phrases).

some words are looks similar but have different voice, in that case it will be considered as single time. But if words are not similar then each mistake will be counted as a separate one.

It can be considered as a single error if that happens with the noun as the meaning of the sentence won’t change. But if it happens with verb or other things, it should be counted as errors separately. home exercise videos

I would like to read a custom essay paper on Kindergarten teaching methods, so would you like to add teaching resources here? Thanks

proper nouns are only counted once
by: Anonymous

Errors that are proper nouns are only counted once, no matter how many times the child says the wrong word. For example if the word is Jenny and the child calls it Jimmy throughout the text, it would only be one error. BUT, if it is just a regular noun (like reading dog for puppy) it would be counted as an error every single time it is read wrong. (This is from running record training from reading recovery teachers)

Scoring Running Records
by: Mrs. Mikesell

I would tell the child the word, if they appeal to you for help, then mark them incorrect if they continue to make the error.

This way you can give them assistance, but still know if they are "getting it" or not.
