Pick Me Pot

by Lori Donovan
(Fredericton, NB, Canada)

My children accused me of not fairly choosing students to answer, speak, take turns, etc.

I had read about using namecards to randomly choose but wanted to expand on that.

I got a flower pot and one of those fabric flowers (like you win at fairs) that I glued into the pot.

I used tongue depressors with each student's name and then placed them upside down in the pot.

Now when I need volunteers, etc I just go to the 'Pick Me' pot.

Once all students names have been used I put them back and start again.

They love it so much they often use the 'Pick Me' pot to choose partners, etc.
