Nonstandard Measurement

My Principal is planning to observe me teach a math lesson (measurement- nonstandard) for 45 minutes next week.

I have some classroom objects for my students to estimate and measure with the paper clips and unifix cubes.

Will you please give me some ideas of what to do?

I need a lesson plan for that day. :)

Measurement Ideas
by: Kristen W.

Here are just a few I did for 2nd grade:

I began my lesson by reading the book, "Inch by Inch."
I gave each student bags of different manipulatives and a handout that had each one listed. They were to then measure each item and write it down. Before they did this on their own, we did one or two together.

Another suggestion would be let the students choose items in the classroom THEY want to measure and have them write it down. I chose groups at a time to go while the others worked on their handout.

I hope this helps a little. This was reviewing inches. Let me know if this helps you!
