Music Center
A natural activity to have in a primary classroom is a music center.
In this area, my students listen to some of their favorite eduational songs, read or write along to the tunes and generally have a good time!
I have found that students like this activity for different reasons. Some just like to sing, some really benefit from the phonologial awareness, and some like the challenge of "keeping up" with the songs either by reading or writing.
I took a few of my favorite CD's like Dr. Jean's Kiss Your Brain! and CJ's FUNdamentals and typed up the lyrics for my kids to read along with. This has helped build reading fluency and sight word accuracy.
My kids love to go to this center, and love it because I know it is building great readers!
