Make-Up

There is one adorable little girl in my class, and she always comes in in the morning and sits in her assigned seat as most of the other kids lounge on the class couch and eat snacks and so on.

This particular girl pulls out her small, plastic case and starts putting on make-up!

She is 6 years old.

I don't know what I should do.

Should I make her stop or let her?

Or should I talk to her parents? HELP!

No makeup is allowed at our school, 6 yr olds often share and it becomes a sanitary problem. I wish we could keep parents from allowing 6 yr olds to have fake fingernails.

If that happened in my room, I would tell her to put it away. I would explain that we do not put on make-up at school. If she or her parents question it I would tell them that is fine for her to do at home, but not appropriate for school.

I would start by taking the make-up and letting her know that this is an academic place.

Write a quick note to her parents letting them know that if they want the make-up back they can come pick it up and you can chat with them then.

Does your school have a dress code? Make-up is on ours. It would be easy to point that out.

Also, the parents might not ever realize that she's bringing her play make-up to school.
