Kindergarten Paraprofessional Job Description

We have a child in our classroom who is ADHD. He has been to the doctor and prescribed medication. Even on medication he still acts up.

This week has been horrible; he has not had his medication because his mom lost it.

Everyone in the school knows about his bad behavior. The principal knows about his behavior she said she can not do any work with him and he does not listen to her. The principal keeps telling the teacher your para needs to have a one on one with him.

She expects me to be alone with him while he is running rampant. He is not focused on doing his work or anything but being disruptive and playing with the adults.

I am trying to find out what are my rights and my job description?

Have you thought about removing the rest of the class when he gets like that? Take them elsewhere and continue teaching them, keeping him in the room with an adult until he wears himself out? Not sure what his motivation is--I've had kids who threw stuff and were disruptive just to get attention...soon as the rest of the class was gone and there was no chance for attention, he stopped.

What about having mom/dad/whoeverloveshimathome coming to get him when he gets out of control until the meds can get taken care of?

I have no idea what your rights are under the law...not sure what you've tried or what your school allows you to do.
