I Went Walking...

by Kathie Turner
(Warwick, NY)

The students will hear the story "I Went Walking" by Julie Vivas.

The story is about a small child taking a walk and seeing farm animals following him.

The students will then identify other farm animals, note the order the animals appeared and their colors.

As an extension, the students will draw their own farm animals and make them a new color. Then the students will line up and read their new version of I Went Walking.

For example, the first student says aloud "I went walking" and the rest of the class answers, "what did you see?" and the student replies "I saw a purple duck looking at me." The child holds up their drawing of their animal.

This can be made into a video, slide show with voice or a Readers Theatre for another class to view.
