Bell Work
by: Kaye

I gave my first graders work when they first came in. It was in the form of a worksheet that was on their desk. They knew to come in and get busy.

The work reinforced things they learned in kindergarten. Most were color sheets (color all the 1's red, 2's blue, etc.) There were also dot to dots using numbers and the alphabet.

As the year went on, I would give morning work to reinforce skills that I had taught. Some were still worksheets on their desk, and some were to copy the morning msg. off the board.

Board Work
by: Diana

First graders should not copy from the board up until after Christmas....They aren't developmentally ready. Then only a few words or sentences at a time.
