Do we have to go to recess?

by Stefanie Taylor
(Westminster, CO)

I started reading Daily 5 over the summer and while I wanted to get started, I decided to wait.

I finally started in November (right after Thanksgiving break) and fell in LOVE!

My kids are more on track during my literacy block, even my students with ADD are on track!!

One day, as I read the final bell to let the kids know it was time to get picked up and head out to recess.

All of the sudden, here comes one of my lowest readers who said "Mrs. Taylor, do we have to go outside, I just got into my book."

I about cried!

This is a student that avoided reading at any turn and was not making progress.

A few weeks ago, I tested him and his scores overall have increased and is not requiring as much intervention at this point.

I would never go back and can't wait until next year to when I start right from the beginning!

Follow the steps, you won't regret the 6 weeks it takes when you see the final outcome.
