Community Signs and Symbols

by Kimberly Dorsey
(New York)

As a middle school special education teacher, community integration is a big part of my program. Having said that, it is important that my students are able to identify common community signs and symbols.

In my classroom, I set up a community signs and symbols center to teach my students more about community signs.

Using a pocket folder, my students are required to match a set of words to the appropriate community sign/symbol.

Since my students love matching activities, this is a great way to encourage learning while having fun at the same time.
