Centers or Whole Group Instruction?

by Nikki Bragg
(West Branch, MI, USA)

I am looking for suggestions on how to best use my 40 min. math block.

I have a special education teacher during this time, so I would like to do centers, but I also know that sometimes at this level, direct whole group instruction is most efficient...I think.

Can you tell this is my first year teaching this grade?

My question to all of you is how do you organize your math time for a week?

Combination
by: Anonymous

I use a combination of whole group and small group Math instruction in my classroom. I teach whole group on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I teach small group on Tuesday and Thursday. This helps me to have enough time to teach concepts during whole group and see students direct understanding during small group.

Marcy Cook Math Activities

Marcy Cook Math is a system of individual tasks within units that is perfect!

I have used it for years - can be done daily or several times a week and reinforces skills ranging from addition to fractions to problems solving.

Google her and welcome to Thinker Math activities!
