Be Nice To Everyone At School

One of the best things you can do when you first get onto campus is to be nice to everyone, get to know the office staff, custodial staff and kitchen staff. These are the people who will help you get things done.

Learn their names, smile and be nice to them. Most office staff members know more about what’s going on than you will. If the custodians like you, they won’t mind helping you out if you’re in a pinch.

During the first week of school I have my students make “Welcome Back” books for all of these staff members. They are quick and easy projects that just say, “We are glad you are here!” They bring smiles to the faces of some people who are sadly taken for granted around most schools.

I always try to get a card and a little gift for these important school members for the holidays. A small box of chocolate will go a long way.
