Winter Break!

It’s that time of the year where school is winding down, holidays are revving up and we all need a little break from the routine.

I just had my last day on Friday and spent it in my PJ’s with my babes reading and watching Polar Express.

It was a fun, wiggly and exciting time.

I asked my parents to send in pretzels and candy canes for a snack.

At one point I caught one of my kids with 4 different, open candy canes on his plate. He would pick each one up, lick it, and put it back down. This went on for a while.

It was really funny!

Santa at Night

One of the activities we did this week to keep our little hands and minds busy was create books called "Santa at Night".

It was a spinoff of Snowmen at Night, a funny story about what your snowman does while you’re sleeping.

We wrote our version of "Santa at Night" and they were very funny.

Santa makes sandwiches and watches TV. Santa also goes downhill skiing!

Behavior Plan

During this break I always take a little time to reflect on what I like about the year and what I need to change when we get back.

I started my new behavior program this year... and the kids love it.

We are using the same behavior indicators as we have been using for years and years at my school - I've just added some incentives.

We discussed it, modeled it and asked many, many questions about it.

They were so glad to "kiss the clips goodbye" and try something new.

I love that their behavior is going to be 'quantitative'. So, when I get pulled into behavior conferences I will not only have notes but data I can graph.

You can download it here: Behavior Program.

When I get back I need to really start reviewing Centers and Daily 5 procedures.

I have received 5 new students since November 1st and they need to know the ins and outs of all of the routines from the beginning.

I also need to redo my math centers. I was totally rockin’ at the beginning of the year and then life caught up to me…

You know how that goes – right?

Awwwww... Moment!

Sometimes we forget how cute, little and vulnerable our kiddos are.

I snapped this picture while the kids were watching the movie.

It was just a little moment in time, but it is one of my favorite things that has happened so far this year.

Kids really are amazing.

I hope you have a safe, fun and relaxing break from school.

You deserve it!
