Elementary Teacher Resources, Issue #045 - Reflections...
March 14, 2010

So, my little Toyota rolled 100,000 miles last week and it brought me to think about other milestones that have been going on in my life.

Little things, big things... things I don't think about often.

Sometimes when we are so busy "doing" life we forget to sit back and think about how it's going.

Here's a short list of milestones that I've been thinking about.

1) I actually owned a car long enough to have it run for 100,000 miles.

This may not seem like a big deal to you - but I have a sorted past with blowing up, crashing and generally destroying cars.

It was exciting to be able to keep this one going for so long.

Lesson learned: If you maintain something it can run much better.

Teaching application: Keep on top of your classroom, and most days will be just fine.

2) Turning... 35.

I know, I know. Thirty's are the new 20's.

Blah blah blah.

This one seemed like a biggie to me because I feel like I'm not the new kid on the block at school any more.

I know when I've used my muscles, and lemme tell you - sleeping just isn't what it used to be!

Lesson learned: Everyone grows older - but you don't have to grow up.

Teaching application: Embrace your inner kid. Laugh, play, get dirty - it'll keep you young at heart.

3) Getting over 5,000 amazing teachers on my teaching newsletter list.

5,000 people want to know what I'm doing in my classroom?!

It's mind-blowing to me - but also very cool.

I've met so many fun, exciting people because of this site that it doesn't feel like work - it's a terrific hobby!

Lesson learned: If you share yourself with people, neat things happen.

Teaching application: You tell your students to share - we should all share!

After pondering a few of these things I decided that I wanted to have a little survey of what you all think about my site, what it has, what it needs and where it should go next.

So, if you have a moment, please click here to take survey to help make this teaching community a better place for all of us! :)

Check out my podcasts on my podcast blog. They are fun and helpful!

I hope that you have enjoyed this newsletter. Please feel free to email it to friends and family who are teachers or homeschool moms!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

See you next month!
