5 Green and Speckled Frogs"off" on the counting, but obviously having a ball! 5 Green and Speckled Frogs is a fun song, interactive book and just a blast to sing and read with children.
I use this book during the first few weeks of school because there are so many different activities built in. This story gets the students up and moving (and imitating frogs), learning backwards counting, building reading fluency, inspiring writing and a great book to then book in the independent reading center.
Sitting on a speckled log, Eating the most delicious bugs, Yum, Yum. One jumped in the pool, Where it was nice and cool, Now there are four green speckled frogs, Glub, glub.
There are tons of different art and craft lessons for this book! I like to make frog hats, puppets, and even make "fly eating" paper plate frogs. Yuck! If your students have access to computers, an interactive coloring page would be a terrific review of the book. You could have them color the page, print it and they can write a frog story on it.
A great activity to wrap-up this book is to get a water table and have the children make little frogs out of clay (and dry them) and have them splash them into the pool! Who doesn't love a little water table fun?
